Student’s Gallery

Its always a pleasure to keep in touch with millinery students and to have a chance to show off their creative pieces and hat making skills, as their journey continues, checking back with them is a blessing.  So to start off here are a few.

This is what we call a feathered creation(to your left made by Liz Gurney), sinamay based material, edged in sinamay dressed with biot or spiky goose feathers.  it will be attached with a comb depending on clients hair or hair style.  A very quick technique to learn with so much creative potential depending on you and your vision.

A silk and sinamay two part hat (just below by Nowela Swanson), very elegant in colour and finishing decorations.  Using the crown and brim two part blocking technique, small, medium and large hats can be designed.  All this is down to you and your creative design, colours and finishing touches.  Each hat is hand sewn so time, passion, and tender loving care has been inputed for this elegant hat, ready to wear at any event, especially Ascot.

free form style out of sinamay (by Debbie), creating a striking oversized take notice hat.  This technique once again gives you scope to be so creative (this word will get used a great deal) and to get you to design outside the blocking techniques.  For those who are adventurous its great seeing the end results.

Just to start off these are a few of my students creations, with the knowledge gained through the workshops, you will be surprised what you have in you.

There will be more on the way but if you want to get in touch and learn how to then drop me an email at diymillinery@yahoo.com and I will be happy to talk to you.

A feathered creation by Nowela Swanson (to the left). An elegant headpiece using stripped coque feathers, with curled quills and a dainty flower, this can be attached by a come or a headband.

A collection of hats by Tina Ellis (below), from one of my 3-5 day courses.  No matter what stage you are at you are able to create designs from sinamay, felt, straw and silk materials, adding your finishing touches giving the wow factor.
